Agrimony - This plant is useful in urinary tract infections and over active or hypermetabolic liver as in chemotherapy or drug excess.

Astragalus - As an immune system builder and strengthener, this herb is a deep tonic that replenishes bone marrow. Anti-fungal/diuretic/expels toxins/pus/aids adrenal. One of the best known herbs used in Chinese medicine, astragalus strengthens the digestion and stimulates the immune system. It also aids adrenal gland function, acts as a diuretic and dilates blood vessels. Uses Astragalus can be used to boost the immune system in people who frequently suffer from infections such as colds. It can also be used in convalescence and to aid in cancer treatment and recovery from chemotherapy.
Cautions Astragalus should not be used in cases of acute infections or fevers.

Arnica (Arnica montana) - For External Use only. (unbroken skin) swelling, pain and bruising, helps with neuromuscular tones as in arthritis. Also known as mountain tobacco, arnica is a well known herbal and homeopathic remedy. It has anti-inflammatory and pain-killing properties when used externally. Uses Arnica is used to treat bruises, sprains and swellings.
Cautions: Arnica should not be used internally, unless the medicine is in a commercially prepared form. It should not be used on open wounds

Alfalfa -. Kidney tonic. Alfalfa has a powerful reputation as a healing herb. It is a healthy and nutritious source of chlorophyll, beta carotene, calcium, and the vitamins D, E and K. Alfalfa has laxative, diuretic and antiseptic effects. It also has a reputation as a detoxifier, able to improve liver function and cleanse the blood. Uses Alfalfa may be helpful in the treatment of urinary tract infections, and kidney, bladder and prostrate disorders. It is also often recommended for bone and joint disorders, digestive problems, skin disorders and ulcers.
Cautions Anyone with the disease systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) should avoid alfalfa products

Cat: 1/2 teaspoon of shopped alfalfa sprouts & mixed into meals. - Also stops them from wanting to eat grass from backyard
Dog: 2 teaspoon of fresh chopped alfalfa sprouts with daily meal as a natural enzyme for good digestion.

Aloe Vera - grows throughout most of the warmer parts of the world. It has been used medicinally for thousands of years and has antiviral, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, moisturising and wound-healing effects. It also stimulates immunity. Taken internally, it soothes gut irritation, aids healing and is laxative. Uses When applied to the skin Aloe vera is used to treat burns, minor skin irritations and wounds. Internally it is used to treat constipation, peptic ulcers, diabetes, asthma and viral infections.
CAUTION: The preservative is toxic to cat's liver.

Buchu is a small shrub native to South Africa where it is often used both as a flavoring agent and as a medicine. It has antiseptic and diuretic properties, and acts as a kidney tonic. Uses Buchu is used to treat blood in the urine, bladder infections and other chronic urinary tract disorders. It is also said to be an effective remedy for kidney stones, prostate disorders, cystitis, and rheumatism.
Cautions Buchu should be used with cautiously in cases of kidney disease.
Bee Pollen
- Since Ancient Greece, bee pollen has been used to increase stamina and endurance among humans. This whole food is a rich source of protein and carbohydrates, a strong immune system builder, speeds healing and is a digestive aid. Bee products are also used as pain relievers, to reduce allergies and to prevent cancer.

Black walnut Hull (TOXIC TO HORSE) Expel parasites, gentle laxative, high in magnesium. For intestinal flora imbalances, it tones the GI tract. As an anti-fungal, it may help in yeast infections.
Bilberry extract (Vaccinium myrtillus).Bilberry extract is believed to help prevent or treat fragile capillaries. Capillary fragility can cause fluid or blood to leak into the tissues, causing hemorrhage, stroke, heart attack, or blindness. Less serious effects include a tendency to bruise easily, varicose veins, poor night vision, coldness, numbing, and leg cramping. Bilberry extract may protect capillaries and other small
blood vessels by increasing the flexibility of red blood cell membranes.
This action allows capillaries to stretch, increasing blood flow, and red blood cells can deform into a shape that eases their way through narrow capillaries.European clinical trials have shown the effectiveness of bilberry extract for venous insufficiency of the lower limbs in 18-to 75-year-old subjects (Corsi, 1987; Guerrini, 1987). It has been used to treat varicose veins in the legs, where it significantly improved symptoms of varicose syndrome such as cramps, heaviness, calf and ankle swelling, and numbness (Gatta, 1982). These trials revealed no significant side effects, even at 50 percent over the ~normal dose. In two clinical trials, a standardized bilberry extract was given to 115 women with venous insufficiency and hemorrhoids following pregnancy. Both studies documented improvements of symptoms, including pain, burning, and pruritus, all of which disappeared in most cases (Baisi, 1987; Teglio et al., 1987).
Blue Violet - detox, tumors, USE sparingly - can be too aggressive stimulation for Lymphoma in humans, but dogs handle it a little better.

Chickweed (Stellaria media) Allergies, Appetite, asthma, blood poisoning, boils, bronchitis, cancer, colon problems, cleansing, constipation, diabetes, hay fever, hemorrhoids, inflammation, rheumatism, skin problems, sore throats, swelling, tumors, ulcers.

Use in rheumatism where the pains shift a lot; also it helps control dietary fat metabolism. A common garden weed, chickweed is a vitamin and mineral- rich herb. It is rich in B complex vitamins, iron, copper, calcium and zinc. It can be used externally to relieve itching, and has wound-healing and emollient properties. Uses Chickweed is usually used to treat itchy skin problems such as eczema, psoriasis, boils, wounds and bruises
Calendula - (Calendula officinalis) It has anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, antifungal and wound-healing properties when used externally. It is used as a skin wash for the fast healing of wounds, burns, insect bites, skin lesions, cut and abrasions. A favorite of homeopaths, it is used in compresses and salves as a very effective first aid remedy.   On wounds and abscesses, make sure the opening is completely cleaned out and all pus removed before applying the salve or compress - calendula closes the skin rapidly and no toxins should remain inside the wound once the skin is closed.Calendula oil is used for ear infections,  infected anal gland impact (gently massage gland sacs, to soften glands, and press to release fluid gently.
Dilute 10 drops into one cup of water makes a good healing lotion for cuts and broken skin.

Comfrey (Symphytum officinale) broken and fractured bones, sprains and damaged tendons; it will stimulate respiratory organs and eliminates expectoration; helpful in arthritis, stomach problems, ulcerated tonsils, abscesses, and wounds; makes an excellent mouthwash for bleeding gums; good for anemia and diarrhea. With extended use, it may irritate the liver. Also known as knitbone, comfrey has a good reputation as a wound healer. It is soothing, healing and anti-inflammatory.Uses Comfrey is used to treat fractures, wounds, sprains, psoriasis and eczema. Internally it has been used to treat gastrointestinal problems It has been a woman's all-healer for thousands of years. Because it works, the FDA has banned its sale. You will need to grow your own.
Comfrey is a wonderful herb, used internally and externally speeds the healing of bruises, tissue and ligament tears, and broken bones non-unions. It kills streptococcus and staphylococcus bacteria, heals urinary tract infections with blood in the urine, heals the lungs and respiratory problems, and heals skin wounds, bites and itching (externally). It is a nutrient, detoxifier, blood cleanser, infection/inflammation fighter.
*Can chop fresh leaves and roots as a poultice, for sprains, splints, shin soreness, bone fractures with horses.
Comfrey is also rich in Vitamin B12 so feed a small handful of shopped leaves to a horse that needs a pick-me-up.
Cautions Comfrey contains compounds which have caused liver damage only IF given in larges doses for a long period in animals. Otherwise is safe and very effective for healing animals and humans.

Uses Chamomile is used to treat many conditions including asthma, hay fever, sinusitis, gastrointestinal disturbances, menstrual and menopausal problems, nervous tension, insomnia and tension and digestive headaches. An excellent cleanser & toner of the digestive tract; aids in calming the nerves; expels worms & parasites; improves the appetite & helps eliminate dandruff.
Externally it can be used to treat skin problems and conjunctivitis.

Cleavers (Galium aparine) Also known as goosegrass and catchweed because of its sticky leaves, cleavers has long been valued as a tonic for the lymphatic system. Uses Cleavers is used to treat skin disorders such as psoriasis, eczema and acne. It is also useful in treating swollen glands and urinary stones.
Cranberry (Vaccinium macrocarpon) A popular and delicious juice drink, cranberry also has valuable effects on the urinary system. Uses Cranberry is used to treat urinary tract infections and as a long term preventive for kidney stones.

Dandelion (Taraxacum officinale) Fresh whole plant as an electrolyte balancer, this is our best diuretic because it doesn't deplete potassium in the cat or dog, it is good for kidney inflammations. Has blood cleansing effects. Kidney and liver tonic. A well known garden weed, dandelion is much valued as a herbal remedy. It is a rich source of vitamins and minerals, including potassium.The root is used to improve digestion as it stimulates the flow of digestive juices, including bile from the liver and gallbladder. This can have beneficial effects on many conditions. The leaves have a diuretic effect. Uses Dandelion root is used to treat liver conditions and improve liver function. Both leaves and root can be used to treat arthritis and skin conditions.
Excellent for anemia because it is high in iron, calcium and other vitamins and minerals. A very good diuretic. - Useful in kidney and bladder problems.
For a horse with bladder infection, give at least five ( three for a pony) cups chopped plants a day for four to five days.
Devil's Claw (Harpagophytum procumbens)- A good first approach for rheumatoid and osteoarthritis as an anti-inflam and acts to decrease blood fats, cholesterol and uric acid levels; also good for gout and adrenal cortical problems. It has strong anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties.Uses Devil's claw is used to treat arthritis, liver and gallbladder complaints. Very effective for arthritis symptoms as well as liver and kidney problems.

Dong Quai ( Angelica sinensis )- Reproductive hormone balancer.
Dong quai has a reputation as a very valuable remedy for women as it contains compounds which can regulate female hormone action. Dong quai also lowers blood pressure, increases blood flow to the brain and other parts of the body, and has also been shown to have mild tranquillising and pain- relieving effects.

Echinacea - (Echinacea angustifolia, E. purpurea, E. pallida) Is a herbal antibiotic on the level of penicillin. It is an infection fighter active against strep bacteria (abscesses and boils ), a blood cleanse (blood poisoning, snake bite, poisonous insects), and a glandular and lymphatic system cleanser. Use it particularly for respiration infections and any disease above the waist.
Use it only when really needed, and keep pet or person on it for a max of two weeks to prevent symptoms from returning.

Cat: boil water add to a heap of fresh parsley and let steep for 20 minutes, cool, then give a teaspoon to 2 teaspoons daily (in food or by mouth) for a week.
Dogs: Use larger amounts of parsley tea - 1- 2 tablespoon 3/4 times daily.
Can also add finely chopped parsley into their daily meals once or twice a week to help keep kidneys cleansed and free of disease.

Poke Root - Allergies, arthritis, breast cancer, bronchitis, catarrh, chronic rheumatism, constipation, edema, fever, obesity.
Use Externally: for abscess, boil, fissures, mammary abscess(poultice), sore throat, sounds, tumors.Poke Root- Lymph drainer/stimulant. In conservative doses, will detox body.
Actions: Allergies, arthritis, blood purifier, diuretic, lymphatic, stimulant, anti-inflammatory.Use in small doses or consult your holistic therapists before using if unsure of dosage required.

Plantain - High in chlorophyll, excellent wound healer - abrasions, rashes and insect bites. Internally stomach ulcers to dysentery and septicemic conditions of the blood.
Pleurisy - Good for dry coughs and congestion as it will remoisten the lungs making expectoration easier, incease sweating for cold, flu symptoms. Will relieve difficulty in breathing, bronchitis and pleurisy.
Passionflower- relaxant, seizures, sedative, used in asthma combinations and seizures.
Paeonia - Cooling herb
Peppermint - motion sickness, restore appetites in dogs.
Psyllium grains - Intestinal cleanser

Rose Hip - Used to fight infection & curb stress. A useful herb for cancer patients, it is the highest herb in Vitamin C content and contains the entire C-Complex.  ...Buy fresh and crush seeds and add to meals OR use herb tea or extract and add to meals..Good for cancer patients, as high Vit C.
Rosemary - seizures, relaxant, improve circulation to the head, normalize blood pressure and strengthen capillaries in the brain, relieves debility and depression associated with nervous disorder.

Siberain Ginseng - tonic, increase performance, stamina, and endurance, increase mental alertness
Sage (Salvia officinalis)- cooling herb for skin. Can increase sweating in fevers and flu. A commonly used culinary herb, sage also has medicinal uses. It has carminative, anti-spasmodic, anti-microbial, astringent and anti-inflammatory actions. Uses Sage is used to treat colds, sore throats, hot flashes, painful periods and indigestion.
Cautions Sage should not be used during pregnancy
St.John's wort or Hypericum is a major pain reliever for arthritis, rheumatism, wounds,burns,and body injuries. Use it for nerve pain and nerve damage from trauma, and use it for spinal problems and slipped discs. Most known as a homeopathic, hypericum is an antispasmodic, anti-hemorrhage, and heals the lungs, urinary tract, and reproductive organs. Its primary use is for pain in cases where the skin is unbroken.
Shiitake - immune regulator, tumor inhibition, anti-viral, anti-bacterial, liver protector.
Scullcap (Scutellaria laterifolia)- Nerve repair, seizures, insomnia, fear,migraine headaches, hypersensitivity. Skullcap is valued for its effects as a nervous system tonic. Uses Skullcap is used to treat anxiety as it is calmative, nerve and nervous system repairer, antispasmodic, and pain reliever. More effective than quinine, and not harmful. It is used for epilepsy, spinal problems and injuries, neuritis, twitching muscles, rheumatism, high blood pressure, stress, worry and restlessness.
- Helps reduce high blood pressure, helps heart conditions and disorders of the ventral nervous system such as palsy, hydrophobia and seizures/epilepsy.

Slippery elm Powder (Ulmus rubra) A nutritious convalescent food, the powdered inner bark of the tree is the part used medicinally. Slippery elm powder is soothing to the digestive tract and can also be used externally. Uses Slippery elm powder is mainly used to treat ulcers and inflammatory conditions of the digestive tract such as gastritis and oesophagitis. It can also be used externally to draw and soothe boils, abscesses and burns.Slippery Elm Powder- It is a nutrient and food for very young, old or very weak cats or dogs.
It coats and heals all inflamed tissue internally and externally, and is used for the stomach, ulcers, bowels and kidneys, constipation, diarrhea, dysentery and colitis, and the entire digestive tract, use for pet's  unable to eat due to stomach / intestine burns from Chemo Treatment -

Mix a teaspoon of powder with water to a runny paste, and syringe into side of mouth 2 - 3 x daily, until able to eat.

* If able to eat,or dogs add 1/4 cup of paste to meals. 1 teaspoon of paste in meals for cats.

Thuja - Highly anti-fungal, it is effective in skin problems with ringworm, candidas, urinary tract infections as it retards bacterial growth, use only short term as it may irritate kidneys.

 

Turmeric (Curcuma longa) A member of the ginger family, turmeric is a commonly used curry spice. It has antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, carminative and cholesterol-lowering effects. It is also beneficial for the digestive system.
Uses Turmeric is used to treat and prevent cardiovascular disease and cancer. It may also be useful in inflammatory conditions

Uva Ursi - ( Arctostaphylos uva ursi) Nephritis, cystitis, and urethritis and all urinary tract bacterial infections as it contains disinfecting properties, can also be used as an antilithic for bladder and kidney stones and cloudy urine. Uva ursi, which is also known as bearberry, grows in the northern United States and Europe. It has diuretic, astringent and antiseptic properties.Uses Uva ursi is used to treat urinary tract infections. The urine must be alkaline for uva ursi to be effective.
Cautions Uva ursi is toxic in high doses and should not be used in pregnancy or by anyone who has a kidney infection

Valerian (Valeriana officinalis)- (similar to Valium drug) is a relaxant, mild pain relief, nerve tonic, hysteria, restlessness and emotional stress. Valerian, which has a long tradition of use as a sedative, is native to Europe and North America. It acts as a sedative and tranquilliser, relieves anxiety, lowers blood pressure, enhances the flow of bile and relaxes intestinal and other smooth muscles. Uses Valerian is mainly used to treat insomnia. It decreases the time taken to go to sleep and improves sleep quality and length It reduces anxiety, hysteria, and pain, soothes the nervous system, and reduces high blood pressure.
Valerian slows and strengthens the heart and calms palpitations. It is useful for muscle spasms, arthritic pain, and spinal injuries. It aids indigestion and gas. Though synthesized to Valium, valerian is safe and non-addictive. 
* Pets only need 3/4 drops of the liquid extract for relief of pain and discomfort!
Cautions Valerian may cause morning sleepiness in some people. Rarely, some people may be stimulated by valerian.

Vervain (Verbena officinalis) Highly valued by the druids, vervain has an ancient history of use. It has nervine tonic, sedative, anti-spasmodic, diaphoretic, hypotensive and hepatic actions. It also stimulates the flow of mother's milk. Uses Vervain is used to treat nervous exhaustion, depression, liver and gallbladder disorders
Cautions Vervain should not be used in pregnancy

HERBAL HEARTWORM
Woodworm HERB - Add several drops to dogs meals as Heartworm healing or prevention.

 

Withania (Withania somnifera) Anti-tumor, Anti-Inflammatory, reduces inflammation in Reheumatoid arthritis. Putting Cancer and tumours into regression. Plant's high in steroid content has shown more potent action than hydrocortisone in animal and human arthritis. Good for sports injuries. 500mg(5nl) daily of root extract. Mental problems (anxiety, hallucinations, agitation, schiz )
Learning enhancement and memory retention have also been dramatically improved when withania ( 3 caps) gotu Kola (2 caps), gingkgo biloba (2 caps), were taken regularly on a daily basis. Widely used in Ayurvedic (traditional Indian) medicine, ashwagandha is also known as Indian Ginseng. It improves the response to stress, possibly via an action on the adrenal glands, and also has anti-inflammatory and sedative effects. Uses Ashwagandha is used to treat nervous exhaustion, insomnia and malnutrition. It may also be useful in cases of impotence or infertility due to nervous exhaustion, in convalescence, and in debility associated with chronic inflammatory conditions such as arthritis and Crohn's disease.

 

Wild yam (Dioscorea villosa) Wild yam is now well known as the source of the chemical from which the female hormone progesterone is produced. It has anti-inflammatory, diuretic, anti-spasmodic effects and also stimulates the release of bile from the gall bladder. Uses Wild yam is used to treat pain and spasm, especially rheumatic and menstrual pain. It can also be used to treat urinary tract conditions.
Cautions Some manufacturers claim that wild yam has a progesterone-like action in the body. This claim has not been supported by research.

Yucca - is gaining increasing attention among dog guardians for its success in treating arthritis, hip dysplasia, and other degenerative bone and joint diseases. (although not for cancer of the bone)
- It reduces pain and increases mobility by production of natural steroids in the body. Yucca also aids digestion and is a liver, blood, and digestive system detoxifier. It is helpful for allergies, asthma, skin problems, body odour, and stress. arthritis

 

Yerba Mansa - Good for rheumatoid arthritis, cystitis, bleeding gums, very similar to Goldenseal.

 

Yellow Dock - Nutritive tonic, high in Iron and useful in treating anemia; also nourishes the spleen and Liver, thus effective of Jaundice, Lymphatic problems & skin eruptions. Boils, ulcers, wounds, cleansing blood. Mineral-rich plant, especially in iron. Anemia.
Excellent as a blood purifier and toning up the entire system. anemia, Iron, ulcers.

 

Yarrow (Serenoa repens) - Will stop passive Internal bleeding, cleanses liver, and bladder. Is for fever and infectious dis-ease; stops internal bleeding; cleanses the liver, kidney and bladder; heals the mucous membranes; stops diarrhea; heals the lungs and circulation; and balances the endocrine system. Its chemical make is close enough to insulin that yarrow may be a significant remedy for some pets with diabetes. for an animal with this condition, proceed slowly and with expert help, and get the person to monitor blood sugar levels frequently. There can be no stopping and starting in treating diabetes; if the remedy works, keep the pet on it, and monitor closely. Chelated Chromium tablets(crushe) is another sugar balancing product.

* Externally, yarrow is an antiseptic for wounds, rashes, and deep punctures - use as a poultice or compress.

 

Willow (Salix alba) White willow is one of the natural sources of aspirin and like that drug, it has anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties
